5-6 Famalia, an emerging hip-hop group from South West Philadelphia has been making a huge impact in the music industry recently. 5-6 Famalia consists of rapper Yung Canon, rapper Holliwood, and rapper/singer/producer Prince Ahmed a.k.a. Jerobi Heart, who are also brothers as well. Each member has a completely different style to bring to the table, but they mesh perfectly. 5-6 Famalia officially dropped their first five-tack demo called A Struggle Will Never End in 2003.
Yung Canon has the ability to freestyle for long periods of time, no matter what type of instrumental he has been given. When it comes to writing lyrics, he speaks to all audiences with his wide range of subject matter.
Jerobi Heart makes beats that display his own creativity and unpredictability. You never know what he will come up with next. Ahmed has made beats for many styles of music. He started out strictly as a rapper, but he has continued to integrate singing into his newer material.
Holliwood has impressed people all across the country with his raw, mature lyrics. Fans are shocked to learn that he is only 18 years old. Holliwood’s flow can change speeds effortlessly.
5-6 Famalia sold 200 copies of A Struggle Will Never End in the first week it went on sale. They sold the demos for $10 each, and they were successful without any marketing or promotion. Now, with over 10,000 fans on Myspace, 5-6 Famalia has been able to build two street teams. They have a street team at Penn State. They also have a street team developing throughout several states in the U.S. In addition to the United States, 5-6 Famalia’s fan base has expanded overseas into the United Kingdom and into parts of Africa.
They have performed in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Boston, Texas, California, Florida, New Jersey, and Minnesota. The electricity 5-6 Famalia gives off in a live show keeps the crowd excited and constantly earns them new fans. 5-6 Famalia have been played on 106.7 WAMO, which is a hip-hop and r & b station in Pittsburgh. They have also been played on various internet and college radio stations as well.
Their latest mixtape is called The Element of Surprise. It is their most diverse offering so far in their career. The mixtape features instrumentals from A-Boy, in addition to instrumentals from hip-hop artists such as The Game, Jim Jones, and Rick Ross. One of the biggest reasons this mixtape is called The Element of Surprise is because they also chose instrumentals from artists such as Michael Jackson, Weezer, Coldplay, and Flyleaf, in an effort to set themselves apart from other rappers in the mixtape circuit.
5-6 Famalia is preparing their debut album Beat Em Up University. This album will be fun, as well as raw and realistic with minimal use of profanity. This album has elements of east coast hip-hop, southern rap, r & b, soul, pop, new wave, and rock, which promises to deliver a fresh, original impact in the music industry. Right now, the track list is still in progress, but the first single off of Beat Em Up University, called “What It Do” has been making waves in the streets.
Right now, 5-6 Famalia is preparing for a tour to support Beat Em Up University. They are always in their studio recording new music for future mixtapes. In addition to music, Yung Canon just recently graduated from Penn State, Prince Ahmed is finishing his last year at Penn State, and Holliwood is a freshman at Penn State as well. A-Boy and Yung Canon are two of the four members of a growing media productions company called Dreamland Productions LLC.
